Race 1. (12:20) Midway (Bm72) 1200m
* Above offers may only be available to select customers.
Back Me
1 Astero (Bet Now: $9.50) is a proven Midway performer that should prove hard to beat. Just a run two back at Randwick behind Munitions before going to the midweeks at Warwick Farm where he got off the speed and was held up before eventually getting clear and finding the line strongly, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Invincible Vision. Hard fit now, he appeals.
Danger
7 Prince Invincible (Bet Now: $6.00) is third up from a break and should just about be at peak fitness. Both runs back have come at Midway level, resuming with a down the track effort behind Mabel before going to Randwick where he ran a much improved race behind Dalaalaat, notably when ridden with a sit, so if that can eventuate here, I think he’ll take holding out.
Long Shot
2 Oxford Tycoon (Bet Now: $14.00) is a son of Written Tycoon for Kim Waugh that resumes. He hasn’t raced since August 31 at Warwick Farm when producing an end of prep run, finishing down the track behind Capo Strada. He is a good fresh horse and loved his recent trial win on the home deck at Wyong. He’ll land on speed and proving hard to run down.
Race 2. (12:55) Pago Pago Stakes 1200m
* Above offers may only be available to select customers.
Back Me
2 Maharba (Bet Now: $4.00) has a few quirks but no doubt he has talent. First run for Grahame Begg came in the Talindert where he was smashed in betting and despite doing a bit wrong, he was strong late and impressive in winning. Stable is flying, form around him reads well and the rise to 1200m should be fine. Rates as one of the hardest to beat.
Danger
7 Introducing (Bet Now: $6.50) has an engine under the hood. Trialled up well, beating stablemate Platinum Jubilee before going to his debut at Warwick Farm where he did a bit wrong on speed and was entitled to be run down but he kept finding under pressure and despite doing a bit wrong, he was miles too good. If he can improve off that, I think there is something under the hood to suggest he commands respect.
Long Shot
5 Bases Loaded (Bet Now: $6.50) has done little wrong in a two start career for the GaiBott camp. Debuted with a strong win on the Kenso before going to the Skyline where he did work to land on speed and toughed it out pretty well in defeat behind Corniche, finishing third. The end of 1200m is the slight knock with him but hard fit, lands on speed and will take running down if the track is up/in.
Race 3. (13:30) Cerrone (Bm88) 1350m
* Above offers may only be available to select customers.
Back Me
5 Dynamic Impact (Bet Now: $5.00) is screaming out of a horse wanting more ground and he gets that here. He ran over 1200m two weeks back at Randwick where the race shape was clearly against him but really really liked the way he found the line when fourth to Much Much Better. Half positive steer, up in trip, in form, he has to rate as one of the leading contenders.
Danger
4 Finepoint (Bet Now: $3.40) resumes for Chris Waller and has the runs on the board to give this a shake. She hasn’t raced since Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington when producing an end of prep run when down the track behind Larkspur Run. Good horse early on in a prep and her trial work has been more than encouraging, plus J Mac on. The intent is there, so watch the market.
Long Shot
6 Attractable (Bet Now: $8.50) is a very interesting runner. Formerly with Peter Moody, he now has his first run for Sara Ryan, a trainer that is slowly finding her feet and finding form. This horse has solid form from Victoria behind some likely types, notably a fourth to Pounding, a subsequent Group winner. Has won first up previously and his trials have been more than encouraging.
Race 4. (14:05) Magic Night Stakes 1200m
* Above offers may only be available to select customers.
Back Me
6 Steel City (Bet Now: $3.10) needs to win to get into the Slipper next week. Can easily make a case to say she fights the finish out with clear air in the Blue Diamond but it ended up being a barrier trial behind Little Brose. Form around her from her two runs in Sydney is very good and clearly she has above average ability. Little query at 1200m, but ability wise, I think she has them covered.
Danger
7 Tu Qui Santuzza (Bet Now: $5.50) will jump on the bunny and give a sight. GaiBott trained filly that debuted over 1100m at Canterbury and I thought the win was massive. She led, copped heat on speed and was there to be run down but found under pressure to fend them off and win in good style. The time was okay relative to the night and off that effort, 1200m should be fine and has the right racing style.
Long Shot
10 Bianco Nero (Bet Now: $51.00) is one I could entertain for wider multiples. Matty Smith trained filly that debuted at a Friday night meeting at Canterbury where she got a fair way back in the run and was never a really threat but liked the way she finished the race off late when third to impressive winner Tu Qui Santuzza. Like her up to 1200m, she’ll be strong late and is one for multiples.
Race 5. (14:40) Maurice McCarten Stakes 1100m
* Above offers may only be available to select customers.
Back Me
6 Kalino (Bet Now: $7.00) has been excellent this time in for Chris Waller and I do think fresh leg will be ideal. He ran a few weeks back over 1200m at Rosehill and that was his third run for the prep, all at 1200m, and for the first time, he just didn’t quite ping when asked when third to Spacewalk. Like him fresh at 1100m and in a fast run race, he’ll be strong at the end.
Danger
2 Athelric (Bet Now: $4.00) is a James Cummings trained sprinter that resumes. This guy was around the mark in the Spring but ended it on a high with a dominant win in The Warra on Gong Day at Kembla. Trial work to get ready has been strong to the eye and with J Mac on, should lob into a lovely spot from the gate and prove hard to beat against these.
Long Shot
7 Quick Tempo (Bet Now: $10.00) lacks the class of some of these but with a fast run 1100m on the cards, he’ll be launching late. He ran here three weeks back and was very good from the back when third to Andermatt, beaten 1.5L. He’ll likely be spotting them a start but drawing gate one, he can settle a bit closer and still dash late. Definite winning contender.
Race 6. (15:20) Phar Lap Stakes 1500m
* Above offers may only be available to select customers.
Back Me
I am with 7 Zougotcha (Bet Now: $1.45). She’s one of the best 3YO fillies in Australia, and that is confirmed by the fact J Mac is trying his best to ride at 54.5kg, which is a big lead that he thinks she’s hard to beat. Resumed in the Surround and looked the winner but condition just gave way late when a very narrow fourth. Fitter, up in trip, and given it is Set Weights, she just looks well suited. Clearly the one to beat.
Danger
2 Brosnan (Bet Now: $14.00) is sneaky flying. Closed off well nearer the inside fresh in the Eskimo Prince at Randwick before a solid effort in the Hobartville three weeks ago here where he got back and found the line nicely behind Osipenko. Hard fit now and getting to a suitable trip, he’s in with a shout, and would be extremely hard to beat if key runners were scratched.
Long Shot
Dunkel I am in love with as a Derby prospect, but should he not head to Randwick, 4 Awesome John (Bet Now: $14.00) is my pony and he’s worth something small each way. Should have won fresh at Canterbury but had no luck in the straight. Good thing beaten. Should Dunkel not head there, Awesome John is one of the best local hopes for the Derby up against the Kiwi raiders.
Race 7. (16:00) Sky High Stakes 2000m
* Above offers may only be available to select customers.
Back Me
Was hoping they’d miss 16 Protagonist (Bet Now: $5.00) but they haven’t, especially with J Mac booked. He needs to win this to be any chance of getting into the Sydney Cup so there will be intent. His last run overseas came at York when second to Algiers, who has since gone on to be a Stakes winner at Meydan a few weeks ago, so the form reads well, he’s a dry track horse, leading rider booked…I’m in his corner.
Danger
It’s hard to get away from 15 King Frankel (Bet Now: $4.20) for Mark Newnham. He resumed three weeks ago in the Parramatta Cup where he did a really good job to win given he had to chase Banju from a fair way out and being first up, he was entitled to knock right up but he kept finding and was too tough for them. Natural improvement, fitter, up to 2000m, he’s clearly one of the hardest to beat.
Long Shot
5 Selino (Bet Now: $151.00) might want one more and a rise in trip, but he has a touch of class on his side. He resumed in the Parramatta Cup where he paraded with a massive gut and ran accordingly when last behind King Frankel but his late splits actually weren’t too bad. He’ll likely be back near last in the run but should be strong at the end and could pinch a first four spot.
Race 8. (16:40) Coolmore Classic 1500m
* Above offers may only be available to select customers.
Back Me
10 Sheeza Belter (Bet Now: $13.00) is a great each way bet here IMO. Forgiving of the Light Fingers effort given they rode her a touch warm I thought. She then went to the Surround when dragged back and took a while to wind into her work but loved the way she found the line late behind Sunshine In Paris. Hoping they ride her more forward, hopefully settling just off the speed, and on a firm deck, hard fit, she gets her chance.
Danger
3 Hope In Your Heart (Bet Now: $10.00) is a gun mare that is just so genuine. Trials leading into the Guy Walter were so so but she proved she is a race day horse, surging hard from off the speed for a great return. Ran so well last prep at this track/distance in the Golden Eagle, and off the first up run, she’s hard to beat.
Long Shot
4 Mustang Valley (Bet Now: $21.00) looks right on target for this race. She was kept pretty safe in betting two weeks back in the Guy Walter and I think you can make a case that with clear air, she wins the race instead of a third to Hope In Your Heart, getting held up before going inside to inferior ground and driving hard late. Truly run 1500m should be ideal…the only knock is a firm deck, but she has class.
Race 9. (17:20) Ajax Stks 1500m
* Above offers may only be available to select customers.
Back Me
4 Sibaaq (Bet Now: $4.60) looks to have returned in really good order for Annabel Neasham. This guy resumed two weeks ago in the Liverpool City Cup and I thought was very good from off the speed, a slow speed, when fourth to the very much in form Think About It. Good second up record and up in trip, more positive ride, I think he’ll take beating against these.
Danger
1 Bandersnatch (Bet Now: $6.00) has an excellent second up record and has a liking for Rosehill so he has a bit in his corner. He was near the speed throughout in the Liverpool City Cup when resuming and I thought stuck on pretty well in defeat when third to Think About It. Reckon if he can get a cheap run on speed, where the pattern may well be up/in, he appeals big time.
Long Shot
6 Welwal (Bet Now: $41.00) is at D-Day for me. Should have finished much closer in the Golden Eagle but got flattened. Spelled and resumed three weeks back at Rosehill where he got back to near last in the run and didn’t fire a shot, finishing last, but I will say it was a sit/sprint, so he had no chance. Fitter, up in trip, his best is clearly good enough to take this out.
Race 10. (17:55) Tab (Bm78) 1900m
* Above offers may only be available to select customers.
Back Me
Happy to side with 9 Major Beel (Bet Now: $4.20) in the get out. GaiBott trains this three year old, who is 2/2 this time in. Resumed with a strong win over 1300m at Newcastle before going to the midweeks at Warwick Farm where he led throughout and toughed it out best on the wet ground to win narrowly but impressively. Back on top of the ground, lands in front and is hard to run down.
Danger
1 Almania (Bet Now: $9.00) is just about near D-Day IMO. Kris Lees trained import that has been pretty good in all three runs this time in so fourth up now, hard fit, he gets his chance. He ran two weeks ago at Randwick and was there to win the race I thought. Just failed to finish it off and ended up being a close up third to Glory Daze. I actually don’t mind him slightly back in trip and in terms of class, he commands respect.
Long Shot
3 Caboche (Bet Now: $10.00) is third up from a spell and should be close to peak fitness. Just needed the run fresh behind Ascension before going to Randwick two weeks back where he was just off the speed and seemingly had his chance, beaten three lengths by Glory Daze. His best is certainly good enough to take this out and has home track advantage.
BEST BET: Race Four Number 6 Steel City
