Giants playing first game in Germany as NFL announces international matchups

The Giants will do something this season they have never experienced before, and this franchise is heading into its 100th season.

The Giants will play in Germany in their first regular season game in that country when they face the Panthers at Allianz Arena in Munich.

That is the home of FC Bayern Munich, Germany’s most storied and successful soccer team.

The game will be Nov. 10, in Week 10 of the NFL season.

The NFL announced it’s full five-game international slate on Wednesday morning, which also includes the Jets taking on the Vikings in England.

The NFL’s first-ever regular season game in Germany came Nov. 13, 2022, when the Buccaneers beat the Seahawks 21-16 in Munich.

There were two NFL games played in Germany last season, both in Frankfurt.

In March, the Giants were granted international marketing rights in Germany through the NFL’s Global Markets Program.

This allows the Giants to activate in the German market through fan engagement, events and digital content.

This game will certainly help the Giants market themselves in Germany, even though it is a Panthers home game.

The Giants do some of their best work in Europe.

They are 3-0 in regular-season games played in London.

They were part of the first-ever International Series game back in 2007, when they defeated the Dolphins (it was designated as a Miami home game) 13-10 in the rain at Wembley Stadium. In 2016, the Giants beat the Rams 17-10 at Twickenham Stadium, the world’s largest rugby venue. In 2022, the Giants came back to beat Aaron Rodgers and the Packers 27-22 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. That made the Giants 4-1 in Brian Daboll’s first season as the head coach.

In 1994, as part of the American Bowl series, the Giants spent a full week in Berlin – head coach Dan Reeves in Germany that week actually announced that Dave Brown would be the starting quarterback that season – before facing and defeating the San Diego Chargers 28-20 at historic Olympiastadion.
