Glasgow turns into Germany for new TV and Netflix drama

Cadogan Square in the city centre has been turned into Germany today (Tuesday, May 14).

It is understood the area has been transformed for the filming of Lockerbie – a new TV drama.

In pictures captured by our photographer, the area can be seen full of German signs, shops, and cars.

It comes after the cast for the new drama based on the Lockerbie bombing was announced in March.

The BBC and Netflix announced the cast for the forthcoming show being made by World Productions.

The new six-part series is based on the real events surrounding the 1988 Lockerbie bombing.

On December 21, 1998, flight Pan Am 103 was en route from Heathrow to JFK when a bomb exploded in its hold over the small Scottish town of Lockerbie, killing 270 people, including 43 British citizens and 190 Americans.

It was the worst-ever terror attack on British soil and the first major one on US citizens.

The cast for the new show includes Scottish actor Peter Mullan, Connor Swindells from Sex Education, Patrick J. Adams from Suits, Merritt Wever, Tony Curran, Eddie Marsan, Lauren Lyle, Andrew Rothney, Phyllis Logan, Parker Sawyers, James Harkness, Khalid Laith, and Amanda Drew.

Lockerbie will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, followed by Netflix in the UK and globally.

The BBC says filming for the TV drama began earlier this year in Scotland and will continue in both Malta and Toronto.
