Golf betting tips: Golf betting tips: Two 33/1 shots for the Alfred Dunhill Championship

Two golf tournaments take place this week beginning with the Alfred Dunhill Championship, the final leg of the DP World Tour’s three-week stint in South Africa.

Dean Burmester, chasing a hat-trick following wins at the Joburg Open and the South Africa Open, is the 6/1 favourite at Leopard Creek Country Club.

In the US, the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour venture into new territory with the Grant Thornton Invitational, a co-sanctioned mixed-team event that has replaced the QBE Shootout.

The all-American team of Tony Finau and Nelly Korda are 6/1 to win at Tiburon Golf Club’s Gold Course, with Swedish pairing Ludvig Aberg and Madelene Sagstrom available at the same price.

Repeat on cards for Bezuidenhout

While Dean Burmester has done the double in the first two South African events, Leopard Creek presents a different challenge and it’s one that Christiaan Bezuidenhout is expected to relish.

The 29-year-old has finished ninth and 17th over the past two weeks in his homeland, so he is not far from finding top form, and his precise tee-to-green game is perfect for Leopard Creek, where he won this title by four shots in 2020.

Bezuidenhout has not enjoyed a vintage year but he has shown himself capable of competing for titles in much stronger fields than he will face this week. He can make his class count.

Tip: Outright winner – Christiaan Bezuidenhout @ 16/1 with bet365

Schaper poised to come of age

Jayden Schaper went off in the final group of the South African Open last week before fading into a share of fifth place but that was another strong performance from an immense talent who can shine again this week.

The 22-year-old did not have his A-game in the final round at Blair Atholl but he finished in the top 10 in each of the past two events and the best performance of his career came at Leopard Creek, where he finished runner-up to Bezuidenhout in 2020.

Tip: Outright winner – Jayden Schaper @ 33/1 with bet365

Jamieson on the right course

Scott Jamieson retained his DP World Tour card with a third-place finish in Qatar in October and he can put it to good use by going close at Leopard Creek.

The Scot has a superb record at the venue, finishing third in the Alfred Dunhill in 2012 then fourth, third, sixth and 11th in each of his last four visits (2016-2022).

Tip: Outright winner – Scott Jamieson @ 33/1 with bet365

Grant Thornton Invitational golf betting tips

Swedes relish team event

The PGA Tour and LPGA have joined forces for the Grant Thornton Invitational, a three-day, 16-team mixed-gender contest that features one round of scramble, one round of foursomes (alternate shot) and a final round of modified fourballs.

Host venue Tiburon Golf Club previously staged the QBE Shootout and it is also the scene of the LPGA’s Tour Championship, so it will be familiar to several of the PGA Tour professionals in the field and virtually all of the LPGA contingent.

RSM Classic winner Ludvig Aberg is arguably the best player in this field and he joins forces with Madelene Sagstrom, who is no stranger to team golf having represented Europe in the Solheim Cup three times and also helped Sweden reach the semi-finals of the International Crown this year.

Sagstrom is not quite on the level of some of the other LPGA professionals in this field but her fiancé Jack Clarke is Aberg’s caddie, so the pair know each other well and should have no problems when it comes to gelling as a team.

Tip: Outright winner – Ludvig Aberg/Madelene Sagstrom @ 6/1 with bet365

Keep an eye on rising stars

For a second wager, consider Sahith Theegala and Rose Zhang, two rising stars who have every chance of making an impact at the top of the Grant Thornton leaderboard.

Theegala won the QBE Shootout last season alongside Tom Hoge, before going on to win as an individual at the Fortinet Championship, while the prodigious Zhang won on her first start as a professional and has since become a regular LPGA contender.

Tip: Outright winner – Sahith Theegala/Rose Zhang @ 10/1 with bet365
