On Thursday night, the Cincinnati Bengals lost star quarterback Joe Burrow for the remainder of the season after he tore a ligament in his throwing hand. But unfortunately for the Bengals, the team could still actually see even more unfortunate repercussions to the Burrow injury.
As NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN reports, the NFL is investigating why Joe Burrow was not listed on the team’s injury report even though he was wearing a brace on his right hand on Wednesday night, before ultimately leaving the game with the season-ending wrist injury.
“The NFL is investigating why the Bengals did not list QB Joe Burrow on their injury report when the team posted a picture of him wearing a device on his wrist Wednesday night and he appeared to be hampered by the injury early in the Thursday night game that he later left, the league confirmed today,” Schefter wrote.

“The initial picture of Burrow wearing a device that looked like a soft cast on his thumb was posted by the Bengals, only to be deleted later.”
The Bengals could be punished for this, as Schefter points out, possibly even losing a draft pick.
“The NFL routinely looks into matters of compliance with the Injury Report policy, and will do so in this instance as well. Teams can be fined or even potentially lose a draft pick,” Schefter wrote.
It would obviously be horrible news for the team to not only lose their quarterback for the season but also lose a draft pick. And the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media.
I think them deleting the video made this a bigger deal. Someone is getting fired lol https://t.co/hkb1qDe6k7

They should be stripped of their 1st round pick and it should be given to the next team on their schedule imo https://t.co/Oaa3zZvYVo

The Bengals very much could lose a draft pick for not reporting this injury. https://t.co/5re1CmWYRu

No, but my 40-plus years of fandom with the Bengals has reverted to a familiar place. Time to tank for the highest draft pick possible … https://t.co/BWG24mLXXU

We’ll have to see how this whole situation plays out.
